Have you ever felt like you're running behind...with your life? I'm having one of those weeks where it feels like I can't get caught up on anything. Take this blog post, for example. I am way late.
Part of the delay came from a spontaneous organization of my sewing stuff. My mother gave me two baskets with lids that somehow managed to hold everything. My fabric supply has burgeoned over the past two weeks as I became carried away with fall fabrics, and I had to fold and re-organize before it over-ran the closet. In our old house there are no closets, so with the aid of my father and step-mother, we turned the trunk room into a walk-in closet. Everything that needs to be hidden away goes in the trunk room, and I'm not posting a picture of it because it's a precarious situation in there. I'd hate to upset the delicate balance, or inspire others to say, "well, at least my closet doesn't look like that."
Reorganizing anything was a challenge with the Little Bear around, and little did I know that piles of fabric were excellent for jumping and biting. A fifteen minute exercise quickly stretched into the better part of an hour as she rassled the fabric, and I rassled her to get it out of her mouth and away from those questing paws.
The high point was finding a small container of vintage sewing odds and ends from my Grammy that I had been given years ago. It lay forgotten at the bottom of a basket until this afternoon.
I love wooden spools, not enough to collect them but enough to take a picture and enjoy the feel of them in my hand.
And in the file of Things to Remember NOT to Do, I won't be cutting Little Bear's bangs in the bath anymore.
This is going to be one of those pictures that she'll look back on and whine about the horror of home haircuts. It was her second haircut, and I only cut her bangs. (I'm not brave enough to try trimming anything else since her hair is curly, and SHE NEVER SITS STILL.) The first time I cut her bangs when her hair was dry, and they turned out beautifully. This time...not so much.
What did The Husband say? "Feeling enthusiastic in the hair department?"
Everyone's a critic.

oh I think she looks cute! Like a little 40s girl. Put her in a pinafore and maryjanes with ankle socks.
But yes, I barely dampen Ben's hair before I cut it. I learned the hard way too. Actually, curly hair can be easy for beginners because straight hair (like Ben's) shows every mistake.
I wish I had a trunk room. And like you, I would show it to NO ONE. We have an old house too and I just idolize closets.

Aw, no childhood is complete without the obligatory, too-short-bangs picture. I speak as one who knows....

When you're such a beauty, who cares about some short bangs? Back in the day, we had real things to complain about in the home beauty department. Nothing smelled as bad as a home permanent! Or looked quite as wild and wooly for weeks until it settled down!
