I experienced a start when I looked at the calendar this week. The Autumnal Equinox was just around the corner, causing me to cast a hairy eyeball at the pile of summer sewing that had taken up permanent residence on my sewing basket. GET IT IN GEAR, I told myself. So as soon as Little Bear went down for her nap, I began cutting out two skirts. In seersucker...
I know! Seersucker! Could I BE any more southern?
In my defense, it was on sale at the local fabric store, and once I caught a gander at the rickrack and other trim...well, I was a goner.
I had every intention of sewing them well before our travel season began in July, but I never got around to it. Yesterday I decided that they would make a good topic for today's entry, and just as I gave myself a pat on the back for industriousness, my sewing machine went hinky. (I believe it was a timing belt issue and will be dropped off at the sewing machine doctor today.) Oh the frustration! And just when I was gathering steam to finish up the last of my summer sewing projects. "gRRROOOwl!" as Little Bear says.
I consoled myself by perusing some of my favorite sewing sites. Do you know about Made By Rae? I think I fell in love with everything she posted and purchased her Big Butt Baby Pants pattern immediately because I couldn't resist the baby feet. Also because the pattern is specially designed to go over cloth diapers, and if you've ever put cloth diapers on your child and then tried to clothe them, then you know all about the too-tight-pants-problem. Little Bear has busted many a crotch seam due to this issue. So I'm gonna whip up some of these adorable pants for her this fall, complete with reinforced seams, even though she has exhibited an interest in using her bright red potty. And her diaper-wearing days may soon be over. We hope. (cross your fingers)
It's a completely random phenomena. We haven't begun potty training in earnest, but we purchased a potty when Little Bear began reporting on what was happening in her diaper. We can't understand a single thing she says, but there's a lot of pointing and chattering in her secret bear language. Sometimes she will bang on the bathroom door, walk inside and point to her pants and diaper (she wants them off), then she'll sit down and do some business. Many times nothing happens, and usually she just wants an excuse to use toilet paper and then watch it be flushed down the big toilet. When, on occasion, she actually uses it, we do a lot of cheering. She then jumps up and does a victory dance and, of course, refuses to wear her diaper again. You can just imagine the chasing that ensues. But I digress...
Also on the sewing To Do List is a tunic for moi and some gift ideas for Christmas. Oh, and a fleece coat for the Hound. He is already very excited about it.
Margo-I will definitely post pics, because I'm finally (FINALLY!) figuring out how to fit things properly when I sew. And I shall be inordinately pleased with myself.

a bright red potty! How cute. Sounds like good headway on the potty training already.
I know - summer sewing. sighhhh I guess mine will happen next year. I'm off on winter sewing now. I adore seersucker, so I hope to see your skirts!
